I have three reasons for this.1) we could allow humans to have one takeback per game. This would mainly take away the huge psychological advantage computers have - that you can't make a single bad move against them2) we could allow humans to team up. Then it would be men vs machine(s) but the interesting dynamics would still be there3) computers still have an obvious weakness: not being able to sense danger past a certain number of moves.

In this sense computers may fall for a line that no human ever would.: 'Didn't Morozevich have over a 2900 performance rating in some tournament in 2004? Each has a specific focus on what they are used for but have someoverlap of functionality. Both programs can be considered specialized interfacesthat sit on top of / let you access a chess database.

The database is in a proprietaryformat called ChessBase format. Both programs let you import and export to thestandard known as PGN. CB formatted databases are designed to save a very largeamount of other game related data. PGN is pretty much just the bare minimum ofinformation, in text form.Fritz focuses on you, the user, playing against it. It willgive you hints and talk to you. Fritz tje chess programhas as its primary engine, the Fritz engine. CB being primarily adatabase program come with several engines including the Fritz engine to doevaluations of a position.

So as to not undercut their own product lines,CB comes with a slightly older version of the the Fritz Engine. After all,when you purchase CB, you are purchasing the state of the art for chess databaseoperations. For the most part, the skill of the engine doesn't changedramatically too often so having the slightly older version of the Fritz enginedoesn't matter much. When Fritz gets updated, it is usually the Fritzinterface that uses the engine that is improved.
